IF your PvE ret and have a ? [Pre 3.1 RET Guide]
Chanced upon this guide written by Absolof Skywall realm. A detailed guide on PvE RET pertaining to talents, stats, glyphs and DPS rotations.
Note that with 3.1 on the horizon, there might be changes (especially to talent builds), but this guide is still relevant. Gear wise Absol is talking about 4/5 Tier 7. So here is the guide.
This is for Retribution paladins version 3.07
(PvE perspective)
Leveling spec
The best leveling spec is retribution, It yields higher dps , There is little to no downtime, and is a good spec for soloing content.
Prot is good for leveling at lower levels but once you reach outland+ leveling gets slower, you cant down mobs as fast as ret, and there isn’t many mobs that you as prot cant solo as ret.
Talents
The best talent spec is the (0 / 10 / 61) spec
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Skywall&n=Absol is my variant of this spec
The only difference is I put 2/2 in pursuit of justice instead of 2/2 in vindication
I find the 50% disarmament duration and 15% speed increase more beneficial that a 15 sec debuff
Especially when you cant use certain attacks unless you have a weapon.
The speed increase is beneficial in PvP where a well placed judgment of justice will prevent you enemy from running away and you will be able to run him down. This effect also applies when you are mounted, now you don’t have to ride around with crusader aura up.
Also Vindication doesn’t work on some elites and all bosses.
Pursuit of Justice helps when fighting non-stationary fights , because the faster you get back to your target the more DPS you do ( example : fire wall Sarth , whirlwinds , etc… )
Seals
A good ret paladin USES Seal of the Martyr (Alliance) / Seal of Blood (Horde)
This seal is at least a 30% increase in overall DPS from those using Seal of Command
It increases damage done by all attacks, with the exception of Consecration.
It also Crits for 25% more damage than seal of command would
The damage done by the seal( not the judgment) is also 20% more damaging than the damage done by the seal of commands internal cool down
The damage received from doing serves as a function as its own. It is used in dungeons as a way to receive mana back via spiritual attunement. SA will only work if you are damaged and the amount of mana you receive back come from how much health you receive up until you are fully healed, over healing will not count towards this amount.
This seal will provide sufficient damage for ample mana return.
Glyphs
There are multiple combinations that prove to be useful to ret paladins
Major
Glyph of Avenging wrath
Glyph of judgment
Glyph of Consecration
These are also good choices for major glyphs
Glyph of Crusader strike
Glyph of Hammer of wrath
Minor Glyphs
Glyph of Lay on Hands
Glyph of Sense Undead
Glyph of Blessing of Kings
These minors are the best choices, there aren’t many to choose from
Blessings
You should always buff yourself with Might
Tanks should receive Kings
Melee DPS should receive Might
Casters should get Kings
I recommend for heroics giving Kings to healers, but for raids where the battles last way longer healers should get Wisdom because of Mp5
This is by yourself, if grouped with 1 or more paladin make sure you have kings and might at least, if not ask for it, they can always buff you with regular and not the greater blessing
Stats
The right combination of stats make or break your DPS
You should always stack your stats in this order
Strength > Attack Power > Crit > Hit Rating > Expertise > Haste > Spell Power
Since you receive 2.3 AP per 1 strength (2.53 with kings on) you should always get gems with Strength on them instead of AP, but since not every piece of gear is itemized for strength, AP is a worthy alternative
Gems
Meta - Relentless Earthsiege
Red - Bold Scarlet Ruby
Prismatic - Enchanted Tear
All gem spots except for the one Enchanted Tear, all the rest should be Bold Scarlet Rubies
*Jewel Crafting Gemming*
Meta - Chaotic Skyflare
Prismatic - Bold Dragon’s Eye (x3)
Red - Bold Scarlet Ruby
Enchants and Item Enhancements
In order of best to *ok*

DPS Rotation
For people without the 4 piece
Judge > Crusader strike > Divine storm > Consecration > Exorcism* > Holy Wrath**
For people with the 4 piece
Judge > Divine storm > Crusader strike > Consecration > Exorcism* > Holy Wrath**
*used where applicable, will be added permanently after 3.1 patch
**used where applicable
After the initial rotation, what spell you use is whatever cooldown is up next ,if there is more than one cool down up at the same time follow this order:
Judge > Crusader strike > Divine storm > consecration > Exorcism > Holy wrath
If there are more than three adds in a small group, Divine Storm > Crusader strike
It is recommended that you get the four piece, There is at least a 300 DPS difference between having it and not having it.
