Guide to Gearing a HEALadin for Karazhan

This is written to help paladin healers prepare themselves for Karazhan. A paladin has access to all healing gears due to his high armor proficiency, therefore gearing up as a healer is relatively easy. To start off most good gears comes from instances, so that is where you should look for besides quest rewards and reputation rewards. Start by buying some green healing gears off the Auction House and slowly replace them as you gain better equipment through instances. The stats you should look for are Intellect, Stamina, +Healing and MP5.

Your paladin healer should attain the following unbuffed:

  • 1000-1200 +Healing
Increases the amount of healing your spells can do, you should always aim for more as it is never sufficient.
  • 9000-1000k Mana Pool
To increase your mana pool, pile up on Intellect. It is always good to have a bigger mana pool so keep increasing your Intellect.
  • 17% Spell Critical Chance
Unlike other healer classes spell criticals play a big part in a healing paladin’s game. With Illumination, 60% mana is refunded whenever a healing spell crits, this allows mana conservation. Intellect also increases spell critical rating so stock up on it. With talents such as Sanctified Light and Holy Power combined, you have a base spell critical chance of 11%, with gear there should be no problem hitting 17% or more.
  • 100+ MP5
A high mana pool is no use if you do not have mana to cast spells. Thus mana regeneration or MP5 is vital to the paladin.

NOTE: Each healing libram grants a bonus to a certain spell, depending on which spell you use more often, equip that libram. For example, I use Libram of the Lightbringer when I have to heal main tank as Holy Light will be casted more often.
