Glyphs

A Glyph is an item that enhances the spells and abilities of an class. An example would be reducing mana cost of Cleanse by 20%. Glyphs can be obtained through scribes or by taking up the Inscription profession. You can also easily purchase them from the Auction House.

This page takes a look at Paladin class glyphs and their effectiveness.

NOTE: Some glyphs are not listed as I deem them useless and not worthwhile to acquire. An example would be Glyph of Seal of Blood, which adds a mere 1% bonus to Spiritual Attunement. Pathetic.

I will simply list Minor Glyphs as there is no difference in having or not having them. Although Glyph of Lay on Hands and Glyph of Sense Undead seem worthwhile to get.

MAJOR GLYPHS

Holy

Glyph of Avenger’s Shield
Requires Level 50
Your Avenger’s Shield hits 2 fewer targets, but for 100% more damage.

Basically a glyph for the raid tanking paladin, ideal when you want to pull a single mob such as a raid boss. This would be a staple glyph for raiding Protection paladins.

Glyph of Cleansing
Requires Level 35
Reduces the mana cost of your Cleanse and Purify spells by 20%.

Not an important glyph to have, but Holy paladins in PvP might find this useful.

Glyph of Divinity
Requires Level 15
Your Lay on Hands also grants you as much mana as it grants your target.

A last resort glyph for the Holy paladin. Out of mana and the tank is about to go splat? Cast Lay on Hands on him and start healing away again. With Lay on Hands not draining your mana anymore and on a 20 minute cooldown (16 minute if talented), it is a great spell for these near-wipe situations.

Glyph of Flash of Light
Requires Level 20
Your Flash of Light heals for 50% less initially, but also heals for 140% of its inital effect over 12 sec.

Mixed opinions on this glyph. While the HoT effect is nice, burst healing from paladins is what makes them stand out. Personally I would not take this glyph as I prefer quick burst heals for healing. HoTs? Leave it to the druids.

Glyph of Holy Light
Requires Level 15
Your Holy Light grants 10% of its heal amount to up to 5 friendly targets within 5 yards of the initial target.

Must-have for Holy paladins. This glyph works great with Beacon of Light. Cast Beacon of Light on a tank, proceed to raid heal using Holy Light. You not only heal one raid member, but nearby raid members for 10% and also tank for 110%(Holy Light + 10% heal from glyph) of your Holy Light as well.

Glyph of Seal of Light
Requires Level 30
While Seal of Light is active, the effect of your healing spells is increased by 5%.

Seals now play a part in the healing paladin’s arsenal. Cast this seal for extra 5% healing bonus.

Glyph of Seal of Wisdom
Requires Level 38
While Seal of Wisdom is active, the cost of your healing spells is reduced by 5%.

With downranking heals out of the game, Holy paladins might find this useful for mana conservation.

Protection

Glyph of Consecration
Requires Level 20
Increases the duration and cooldown of Consecration by 2 sec.

Seems to be a good glyph for both Protection and Retribution paladins. Consecration on a longer duration means more threat generation for the protection paladin and more DPS for the retribution paladin. The only problem is how would the longer cooldown affect the DPS rotation of the Retribution paladin.

Glyph of Righteous Defense
Requires Level 15
Increases the chance for your Righteous Defense ability to work successfully by 8% on each target.

Effectively reduces the resistance of Righteous Defense to zero percent. Compulsory? Not really. A situation glyph for tanking paladins.

Glyph of Seal of Vengeance
Requires Level 50
Your Seal of Vengeance or Seal of Corruption also grants 10 expertise while active.

Another MUST-HAVE glyph for serious raid tanking paladins. 10 expertise is a huge bonus not to miss.

Retribution

Glyph of Avenging Wrath
Requires Level 70
Reduces the cooldown of your Hammer of Wrath spell by 50% while Avenging Wrath is active.

A great glyph for the Retribution paladin in both PvP and PvE. When Avenging Wrath is activated, Hammer of Wrath’s cooldown is reduced to 3 seconds. For PvP this means an additional spell to finish off your opponent and in PvE another spell to boost your DPS. Just make sure the target is under 35% health when you activate Avenging Wrath.

Glyph of Crusader Strike
Requires Level 20
Your Crusader strike deals 20% more damage when your target is incapacitated or stunned.

A very powerful glyph for the Retribution paladin. Definite must-have, for now at least. Coming patch will see this glyph changed to reducing the mana cost of Crusader Strike.

Glyph of Exorcism
Requires Level 20
Your Exorcism also interrupts spellcasting for 2 sec.

If it worked on any targets, it would be one of the essential glyphs in PvP. Too bad it works on Undead and Demons only, probably usable against Warlocks.

Glyph of Hammer of Justice
Requires Level 15
Increases your Hammer of Justice duration by 1 sec.

Pure PvP glyph. With many classes getting stun duration reduction in their talent trees, it is best to try and extent that stun duration.

Glyph of Hammer of Wrath
Requires Level 44
Increases the range on Hammer of Wrath by 5 yards.

Extends the range of Hammer of Wrath from 30 yards to 35 yards. Good glyph for PvP but there are better glyphs.

Glyph of Judgement
Requires Level 15
Your Judgements deal 10% more damage.

Holy $h!t! I need to get this glyph. Retribution and Protection paladins will love this glyph.

Glyph of Seal of Command
Requires Level 20
Increases the chance of dealing Seal of Command damage by 20%.

Great glyph for PvP as Seal of Command is the primary seal for PvP. The additional 20% proc chance boosts DPS.

Glyph of Turn Evil
Requires Level 24
Reduces the casting time of your Turn Evil spell by 100%.

This allows Turn Evil to be an instant cast spell. Useful? Maybe for the PvP Holy paladin to get the warlock’s pet off him or against the warlock high on Metamorphosis.

MINOR GLYPHS

Glyph of Blessing of Kings
Requires Level 20
Reduces the mana cost of your Blessing of Kings and Greater Blessing of Kings spells by 50%.

Glyph of Blessing of Might
Requires Level 15
Increases the duration of your Blessing of Might spell by 20 min when cast on yourself.

Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom
Requires Level 15
Increases the duration of your Blessing of Wisdom spell by 20 min when cast on yourself.

Glyph of the Wise
Requires Level 15
Reduces the mana cost of your Seal of Wisdom spell by 50%.
